@jake.pnw: Humpback whales sometimes wash up on the Oregon Coast, and when they do, it's a rare chance to learn about one of the ocean’s most incredible giants. These whales migrate thousands of miles every year, passing our coastline as they travel between feeding and breeding grounds. When a whale becomes stranded, it can be caused by illness, injuries from ship strikes, entanglement in fishing gear, harmful algal blooms, or disorientation from changing ocean conditions. #oregon #nature #animals

Looks like several people although have good intentions have no business being out there. Lucky some people didn’t get swept out.

As of right now they have left the whale. They have pulleys set up but aren’t coming back until 10am tomorrow’s high tide. High tide is only 5ft tonight tomorrow is almost 8ft. They have left her to die it’s messed up I’m so disappointed with our local people

I appreciate the desire to help, but realistically this looks like it is probably causing so much stress to an animal that isn’t likely to survive.

ever think it's a natural process, just leave it alone and let nature do its thing.

A big front end loader would be your only home with tires on the front of it so you had padding to push with

This is so sad 😢 Tell them to look for a net number on that so they can track down who's it is.

I know this video is from last night, and it didn't work, as it's still stranded, but serious question here. Wouldn't the rope risk breaking it's tail? A broken tail means it will die in the long run. I am about 6 hours away, and not able-bodied enough to actually help, so I do applaud all the folks who were out there overnight hauling buckets of water during low tide. I was just really curious about the rope around the tail part.

the terrible and sad fact is that even though all these great and caring people are helping the whale has spent so long and undergone pressure on its organs from its weight on land that if it should and gods willing it does make it its body is exhausted from the beaching, and might end up passing from the stress 😩

She has been humanly euthanized. She was beached for to long that there was most likely critical organ damage

This is Nature and it’s not always pretty!..The people trying to help are probably putting a lot of unneeded stress on the whale added to the stress the whale is going through from being beached..
