The Results of Corruption in the Philippines 🇵🇭
Corruption within the government has become widespread, contributing to the perception that the Philippines is one of the poorest countries in Asia. This view is reflected in the general lack of trust among citizens, injustices within the legal system, and insufficient support for essential services such as education, housing, and healthcare.
Additionally, the country suffers from underdeveloped infrastructure, limited foreign investments, and high prices and taxes on basic commodities and utilities. There are also food supply shortages, and the military is considered one of the weakest in the region. The rapid depletion of budgets and appropriations due to massive corruption and bureaucratic red tape has resulted in limited support for social welfare services aimed at helping poor Filipinos.
These social issues linked to corruption have a detrimental impact on how the international community perceives Filipinos, leading to a decline in tourism to the Philippines. Many professionals and skilled workers are choosing to work abroad due to decreasing opportunities within local industries. This trend is driven by an unbalanced economy resulting from ineffective government policies, severe inflation that does not align with the incomes of the majority of Filipinos, and high bank interest rates on loans.
The extensive corruption not only affects the lives of Filipinos but also damages the environment. There is significant destruction of forests, mountains, and rivers due to poor urban planning, illegal mining, and the unauthorized construction of executive houses and commercial/industrial facilities by wealthy businesses. This environmental degradation increases the risk of severe calamities occurring at any time. 😞 😭
