been to the hole. didn't like it. you're allowed to walk over it, there's a big pane of glass to see down. felt like i was gonna fall in and die 😭

i went this summer! it was a well that they got their water from (was later used as basically a trash pit, it was full of glass bottles) when the factory was first opened and was covered with a concrete slab later on. when they were renovating to turn it into a museum they uncovered it because the well was never filled in

The answer isn't nearly as funny but still bizarre. It was an old well and the workers would just throw defective glass bottles down it instead of properly disposing of them. There's a separate part of the exhibit where they tell you they later cleaned out all the glass but they kept a portion of it in a display case so you could see what it would look like piled up down there 😂
