Serena Williams has fame and money and that did not prevent her from almost dying during childbirth because her medical staff didn’t listen to her when she tried to advocate for herself. Fame and money couldn’t overcome the fact that she was a black woman.

The fact that in medical books, they still state that black women have a higher pain tolerance WHEN ITS BEEN PROVEN THAT ITS NOT TRUE. We need to be angrier for y’all. The lack of knowledge about this topic from other women forever astounds me.

My older sister is a nurse and she’s the reason I found out they’re still teaching medical racism in nursing textbooks!! They are literally taught that bipoc women have “higher pain tolerance” specifically black women having a “higher pain tolerance”. I was truly horrified when she told me that.

It’s not an anomaly. I gave birth in a hallway of the hospital because I was turned away and told to come back in 2 hours. While I was in active labor. It’s not rare to be treated like that during labor as a black woman.
