The way people use this quote literally enrages me. People will use it to just invalidate an individual’s struggles simply because they belong to some majority

“Who set that system up” is like saying “aNd WhO cReAtEd NuKeS” in a discussion about the impact nuclear fallout would have on humanity. Are we trying to prevent human suffering, or are we just trying to assign blame?

Her question implies that it was men that solely set up patriarchy though

I think the term patriarchy isn't really the best way to describe our society, because yes men do indeed have more power, it's mostly rich old white men that have that power, not a random 20 something dude who works at Target. I think a patriarchal oligarchy is a more fitting term for how our society functions.

I’m confused about what your point is at the end? Patriarchy exists just about everywhere, are you insinuating that it doesn’t???

It's not a literacy problem I'm afraid. They know and simply don't care, it's a compassion problem and it's across all generations now.

the whole problem of "and who set that system up?" is that it only exists to find somebody to blame rather than try to actually solve a problem

Who set that system up- not the men lower down in power being affected by these issues for sure . Just like how all people blame white people or the english for colonisation when it was the top 2 percent that conquered globally because they could

The more you get into politics/philosophy the more you realize that in the internet 10% of people actually write ned ideas 20% actually understand those ideas 70% just repeat the surface level / butchered understandings of those concepts

While I understand where you are coming from and agree with some of what you are saying, there are regions populated and led by mostly non-white people in which men of color created patriarchal systems. Yes, many of the patriarchal systems in those countries were influenced by colonization/the white man but many regions also had them develop without or before the white man colonized them. White men and mean of color alike are responsible for dominating legislation and keeping the patriarchy in place today. Likewise white men and white women alike are responsible for upholding racist legislation or colonial white supremacy. Also I have seen that you’ve made the point to some people that you are specifically talking about the context of the U.S but it is false to act as if there are no men of color responsible for setting up a patriarchal system in their country.

I agree with your video but black men got the right to vote before women of any race (15th amendment vs. 19th amendment)

Patriarchy basically refers to societies in which males predominantly hold the power. But males tend to hold the power because they are not hampered by pregnancy, and evolved to have greater strength and size....largely because females chose those males who were most "fit" to acquire and share food, land, and resources with them as a result of competitions with other males. So neither males nor females set any one "system" up, but rather a variety of systems and cultures evolved over millions of years in conjunction with environmental and population factors, such as those that culminated in the agricultural revolution. As for the "Founding Fathers," the Constitution, and subsequent amendments, that revolutionary "system" was actually a watershed development that, like the Greek notion of democracy, ultimately advanced the concept of egalitarianism.

Instead of “Who set that system up?,” what needs to be said is “That’s part of the system too.” We are all victims of the patriarchy and it was created by and for the benefit of a powerful few. Patriarchy makes young men better killers and cannon fodder for kings and presidents.
