Ah, the ever elusive Salt Scrub Method... Curious?  Want to understand why to do it + see how the process looks? Let's get shakin'... 🧂 Why salt scrub? Like anything you plan on keeping around for a while--think of a quality handbag or even work of art--, you want to protect it and prepare it for a lifetime of love. The salt scrub method helps to prepare all of our PRO® line yoga mats by breaking the top layer down. Our PRO mats are designed for durability and closed-cell, meaning that they are sealed to keep out moisture, sweat, and debris. However, this can mean that they appear more "slippery" when you first buy them. The salt method helps you break in your mat to become even grippier and more adapted to your body than it was previously. While it's not needed, some swear by this method. How often should I do it? We recommend salt scrubbing at least twice in the first month of use, and after, as needed. How to do it: -If your mat has already been used, first, wipe it clean with our mat wash and let it dry. Otherwise... -Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top of your mat -Leave it to set for 24 hours -Scrub in salt using a washcloth with a small amount of water -Wipe the mat clean and hang it to dry Other tips: -Try to avoid using mat cleaners other than those recommended on our site, as they can leave behind a residue that may contribute to mat slipperiness -Try to practice on your yoga mat free of lotions and body oils, as these can make your mats become slippery again over time -Use your mat as often as possible! -If you still feel your mat is too slippery, invest in a yoga mat towel, like our eQua® and yogitoes® or try salt scrubbing again Hope this helps, but please feel free to leave any more questions you may have below :) • • • @movement.with.lo is salt scrubbing her PRO® Yoga Mats in Black and Black Sage (Green).
