For me I don't think it's ridiculous. She tried to send a message on an international stage about her country. Sri Lanka is known mostly for Ceylon tea and Cricket. That's the truth. So she wanted to emphasize that. If she had used another fancy costume it would be no more different than other countries. So she tried a new technique which should be appreciated. So yeah..
