@africansallfree: Social media has been cracking up at this clip of staff crawling like four-legged creatures to close the doors after Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan arrived to announce her new cabinet on 17 November. It looks funny, but the politics behind it aren’t. The video lands in a country where many Tanzanians are already furious over Suluhu’s increasingly authoritarian rule. She banned opposition candidates from the 29 October election, then cut off the Internet, imposed a curfew and swore herself in after allegedly winning a hard-to-believe 98 per cent of the vote. Many dubbed it a coronation. It feels like a regime that expects everyone around it to literally bow down. But tell us: Can you believe it? Let us know in the comments.
