I thank myself, I thank God, and I thank the many people online and through books, who've shared their stories, which helped me find the strength to forgive all that I've been through. When people meet me, they often say they'd never guess what l've endured. That's one of my proudest achievements: to no longer look or act like my struggles. I worked hard to erase the dark circles, to bring light back into my eyes, to reclaim my spark. I've let go of the lies spoken about me. l've stepped into the truth of who I am. I've released the memory of the scars left on my body by those who were filled with unfair rage, by those who are supposed to protect you and be there. When I look at those marks now, I don't feel sadness or anger. I don't relive the pain. I see proof that my body healed itself, and that I overcame everything I was put through. • I've been in situations where I couldn't understand how family, or anyone, could want to inflict harm. I realized, when other’s suffering runs so deep, they try to drag others down with them. They rally people against someone because they can't reach them themself. I used to never understand that. Until I did. The Lord made me walk through so much, not just to survive, but to understand. And that understanding can be exhausting. Because even when all you want is justice, your mind keeps offering reasons. And that's hard. I’ve learned that peace isn’t always loud. It doesn’t always come with closure or apologies.
