If she’d been financially stable before that marriage, he would’ve been gone the moment the first real issue hit. That’s the truth. I’ve lived that fear myself, and it’s exactly why I fought to stand on my own two feet so I could walk away if I needed to, without that suffocating voice saying, ‘But he supports you and the baby.’ No woman should ever feel chained to someone because she can’t afford her freedom. After I had no maternity leave and went back to work my husband and I switched nights. It’s not that hard to be active in your child’s life. He would feed her sometimes and I would change the diaper and make sure she burped. Teamwork!
