@chickenovarice: A philosopher who lived by her words! The great Simone Weil! Thought I’d share some aspects of her philosophy that I take with me and apply in my life :) also I’ve heard numerous pronunciations of her last name… still dunno which is right #philosophy #BookTok #simoneweil #classicliterature #simonedebeauvoir
omg I never hear anyone talk about Weil!! I just finished rereading The Need for Roots. She was also critical of Israel well before the nakba and said that the roman empire had no value. she is my absolute favorite and I can never be in a relationship because no one can compete with my love for her

Her ontological interpretation of the Iliad was such a beautifully written essay. She definitely stands out amongst her contemporaries, it’s so refreshing to see a philosopher from this time period who clearly believed in the dignity of all people and who didn’t approach writing from a psychoanalytic perspective. She also suggested regulating how language is used, especially in the media, to misconstrue and misrepresent events. I admire her work so much and it’s so amazing to see someone speak about her. ❤️❤️

Unambiguously - her philosophy is Buddhist in scope and content alike. attention is love, and when we attend to the world, we learn of our need to devote ourselves to it unabashedly, bravely and at great sacrifice to our own cultivated dispositions. love this video.

Nah I'm with you fr. Her line about what matter is the revolution that feeds the people rings in my head daily! That is paramount, and paying attention to the world is step one to changing it in that manner

This was so interesting! The loud music was a bit distracting; maybe you could consider having it a little lower for the future? Up to you of course and thanks for such an informative and unique video.

I immediately recognized the name Weil as Andre Weil, I looked it up and they are siblings. Genius runs in families ig.

Iris Murdoch, one of my favorite writers ever, was heavily inspired by Weil. Her books The Sovereignty of Good and Metaphysics as Guides to Morals are some of the most important philosophical works ever written. I’d definitely recommend.

well to add to this i think capitalism is making an effort to monetize our attention through advertisements for many people who prefer to live online as technology rapidly develops. like ai therapists and friends.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but she sounds to me like if William James was a Trotskyist. I haven’t read any Weil, but she also gives me the vibe of Emma Goldman in her care for the working class. I’m not sure if Weil demonstrated and acted in the way that Goldman did though. Super cool video tho! Definitely gonna check her out

Hurried attention is a great phrase to describe how we get trapped into reaction instead of response. Impatient annoyance instead of curous attention. Thank you for putting this together. Chris Isaaks, too🥰

she was so into her ideals and everything action she did was with compassion she died from it 💔but I have to say that what she did was truly an amazing act even if it led to her demise

I think that while I have increasingly seen this phenomenon in real life, it is exacerbated to the absolute extreme on social media because of the spontaneity of stories and information overall. Detached and hardly accountable for their words, people can become very cruel and unforgiving. Very good video btw, tysm for sharing this

The biggest problem I have with philosophy is that it's difficult to find women philosophers. Most of it seems to theorise over other people's experiences and suffering. They theorise it because they don't live it. I will search her work then
