Every year our executive section buys the main dish and the drinks and the employees (us) all bring sides and desserts. We're doing it again this year. Catering is too expensive!

Nothing. When I used to work for companies or hospitals and if they didn’t have a Christmas party, then they didn’t have a Christmas party if me and my friends wanted to get together at a bar or a restaurant that was different. Most of them did have parties in venues, but later they started getting cheaper and just catering in the conference rooms. Give me a break the employees help these companies make so much money and they can’t honor the employees for one freaking night?

I spent about $150 for 16 employees on gifts and snacks as my contribution to their Christmas. It's only the owner and myself who pitch in though for a small business.

That’s a lot of money. I think a potluck and you buy or make the main dish. So you make like pans of pasta or enchilada’s and they bring the sides. And I work for a major corporation and we do that. Then you all could do white elephant game where every employee brings a gift to swap. You can make a huge Saran Wrap ball but make it really hard to get through. Put lottery tickets,candy, small candles, gloves, coffee gift cards. If you’ve never played it let me know and I can give you more ideas.

I used to love potlucks, but they have gotten a little dangerous because there are so many people that don’t have clean kitchens and don’t wash their hands or allow their cats on the counters and with all the listeria and salmonella outbreaks already going on it just adds to the Worrisome about the food being brought into the office by people.
