@nd.stevie: As I’m nearing the end of naturopathic medical school, I’m strongly beginning to recognize that far too many of our modern chronic illnesses are at their root both social and political diseases. They are also diseases of spiritual void and disconnection from self and community. Our bodies are shutting down on us because of the oppressive, authoritarian, and patriarchal structures we’ve built our societies on. The only way to heal that and change that is to tender to the human heart and spirit. To learn to get into the natural rhythms and cycles of nature. To learn to come into stillness and ease. I believe natural medicine can be a catalyst for this but our societal shortcomings ultimately have to be fixed in the darkness of our own minds and hearts. As a naturopathic doctor, I hold space for this deep inner work and I know it’s vital to us transforming this world into one that benefits all beings- plants, animals, and humans alike.
