technically you can consolidate into a unit if it is WITHIN 4 inches not just 3 inches since you only need to get within engagement range which is 1 inch. hi. im a world eaters player and the combat phase is my domain.

humble idiot :
Can you consolidate into engagement range? And if so can the new unit fight?

One of the old rules was if the model just got knocked down for any reason it was considered dead 😂

My question is, do you HAVE to consolidate onto an enemy if an objective is also within range?

DawnOfSlaughter :
How could consolidate possibly be a little known rule? Super important for deep strike charges since it can allow you to steal objectives or tie up another enemy unit with engagement depending on how far the objective is. Some armies have enhancements or Strat to allow for a 6” consolidate which is downright menacing in the right hands.

so what if you have s unit stuck in combat A. your unit B charges and kills enemy unit. does A get to consolidate if it made no attacks?

World Eaters can Pile-in and Consolidate up to 6” with their army rule, that’s up to 12” of movement in one turn entirely outside of your movement/advance/charge!!

Terrence_the_Large :
I don’t want to um acktually but imo consolidating is a fairly important rule depending on your army, as an ork player it is my lifeline to get free movement. I think a more obscure rule would be plunging fire since almost nobody actually gets on top of buildings to shoot down

Ya a lot of people think you can consolidate to the objective OR a enemy but you have to go towards the enemy not a objective

Dadhammer40k :
I was already aware of this rule, but I also feel that it is bullshit. If neither can be done, the unit just remains standing there. Or, you might be in a position, where the tactically sound movement would be back behind cover or something, but you can't do that either. Consolidate moves should be either into an enemy unit or whichever way you want to go.

Philip K. Dick :
It must also be towards the absolute middle of the objective marker, not just onto it
