A viral video showing a woman being thrown into a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle has raised community concerns and calls for clarity about what led to the encounter. We reached out to CBP to learn more about what happened on Monday. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a Border Patrol agent was in the process of taking custody of two Ecuadorian nationals after a request from local law enforcement, though it is not yet clear which agency made that request, when the situation escalated. Federal officials said the man struck a Border Patrol agent and ran from the area. The woman also assaulted the agent, according to CBP, leading the agent to deploy a Taser before placing her in a patrol vehicle. Authorities searched for the man using Border Patrol agents, local law enforcement support, a track-and-trail canine team, and an Air and Marine Operations aircraft, but he has not been located. CBP said the woman has a criminal history, including prior charges for larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. She has an outstanding order of removal from an immigration judge. After residents began contacting city officials with concerns about the video, the City of Oak Park released a public safety statement explaining why local officers were in the area. According to the city, Oak Park Public Safety received a call around 3:50 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, from a resident who saw a man — believed to be handcuffed — running through a neighborhood near 10 Mile Road and Roanoke. Officers were dispatched and later learned the individual had escaped from federal custody. “Our officers made no direct contact with any detainees, made no arrests and were not on scene during any arrest.” The city said its officers’ role was limited to searching the area to ensure the safety of residents.
