My ex used to ruin every special occasion by running away for a extended length of time, or give him a silent treatment. I run a clear the only time he never did it it was on my birthday. Because it was his birthday as well.

💯True. Every. Single. Our kids and I dreaded every special occasion, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries etc… Even his own birthdays. Me, crying on the bathroom floor pretty much every Thanksgiving and Christmas. This went on for the majority of the 35 year marriage. I’ve been out for over a year and a half, and we’re still struggling to try and like the holidays and make new memories and traditions.

Mine messaged me on our parent app on Christmas Day to tell me our son was upset that he missed me. He didn’t respond to my messages or calls for three days. And he only responded cause lawyer for child messaged him. Thankfully I didn’t check parenting app till Boxing Day.
