You are spot on. SL got test status in 81 and since then cricket became a religion in this nation up to 2015. Then ලොන්තයෝ took over. In 70s ardent local fans ( the entire family came near the radios at night ) to listen to live commentaries and were very proud of our performance against giants. That was how we played cricket even in 70s against some of the best cricketers around the world. The game was very competitive as only the top quality teams participated. Most of the fans then witnessed matches in the ground itself in 70s 80s & 90s . Now those fans are not interested in SL cricket.
