An overzealous Ivy league graduate went to Africa to “help”. He discovered that people traveled long distances to reach boreholes to fetch water. He came back and developed an app that shows where the nearest borehole is and which one had water. The first question he was asked by villagerd - can the app carry the water for me?

Every new tech product is only good for people who only read emails for work, which is what these greedy CEO’s do.

This is also the reason why we need DE&I. If you only have meetings compromised of mostly white, affluent people, you won’t see the daily needs of actual people.

A lot of it is solutions looking for problems. They’re building it because the tech is outpacing the need so they’re inventing needs

This is why Alexa has failed to drive sales the way Bezos wanted. For the ultra wealthy, they can just tell an assistant to buy them a coat or frisbee or whatever. But a normal person wants to shop around and get a good deal. So us poors don’t use their digital assistant the same way they use their human assistants.

You're actually not quite there. Technology that seems arbitrary to YOU isn't made for you. The problem is that the product cannot get made only for the people that might need it. So it gets marketed. This is how we get a million kitchen gadgets. They're made for the disabled. But they wouldn't be marketable without "regular" people buying them.
You may want to reassess your ableism.
As horrible as a person Mark Z is, he's undiagnosed Autistic. He's making these glasses for other Autistics.
I want them badly, because they would be immensely helpful in my daily life. But they won't get made if no one buys them.

so, the bourgeoisie is out of touch with proletariat and control the lives of the proletariat? Seems like the means of production being privately owned isn't working well for the majority

This is why we need more behavioral scientists & user exp researchers in tech. The tech is not solving the problems of the users. They dont know what the true issue for the user is.

They make AI tools that can create hyper-realistic videos that nobody wants to use unless it’s to trick people, instead of addressing a basic and common pain point like scheduling meetings across multiple conflicting calendars at work…tell me why all these tech companies are trying to make me question reality but not a single one of their AI’s can handle calendar management correctly.

The real practical application for AR glasses is in industry and in identifying things you normally don't understand or need help in a pinch. Imagine looking under the hood of the car, and AR can identify components and even run simple instructions and images that show you how it works, installed and should look like. Guiding the end user to properly install/fix the component. Any technology like this should act as an extension of the end users capabilities, not useless factoids that can be found on Wikipedia.
