@unpacking.withrahi: Living in France as a Canadian Tamil has been one of those experiences where you’re constantly balancing two cultures without fully stepping out of either one. There are parts of my upbringing that feel so normal to me, the family rhythm, the way we stay connected, the expectations around visits, weddings, aunties, uncles, all of it, and then I’ll see my French husband pause, confused, or genuinely surprised that this is “just how things work” for us. I’ve been in France for more than 10 years now, and honestly, the real expat experience isn’t the big dramatic moments. It’s the quiet cultural differences you keep bumping into. The ones that make you laugh, or homesick, or suddenly aware of where you come from. The tiny habits that shaped you long before you ever moved abroad. Some days it makes me feel rooted in who I am. Other days it reminds me that I’m living in a place where my “normal” isn’t the default. And I think that’s the part of expat life I love sharing, not the postcard version of France, but the everyday moments where two cultures meet and try to understand each other. #expatinfrance #livinginfrance #interracialcouple #canadiantamil #tamilfrench

So many things i can relate to! Also i don’t even know how to explain this uncle/auntie thing to my partner. He refuses to call my parents uncle/auntie 😀 it’s funny to see him avoid addressing them/saying their names, so he doesn’t come across as disrespectful 🤣
