🚨 A free-walking Olaf Animatronic is coming to the World of Frozen at two different Disney Parks! And this small snowman is a HUGE deal. Imagineering is using AI to bring its new free-walking Olaf animatronic to life, but not in the way you might think. In the newest episode of We Call It Imagineering, WDI gives an amazing look into their current Research & Development efforts. Seriously, this episode includes some of the most in-depth, behind the scenes looks at the tech Imagineering is using to build the future of the parks. But the most immediate news is that a free roaming Olaf animatronic is coming to Paris and Hong Kong in early 2026. Olaf is the next step in a line of recent free roaming animatronics, like the BDX Droids and HERBIE. Imagineering revealed how they’re using reinforcement learning to train Olaf to walk, react, and navigate the real world. And it’s a huge deal for the future of Disney Parks. Olaf can walk on his own, talk to guests, and even has removable arms and nose like in the movies. But the breakthrough isn’t the design, it’s the way he learned to move. Instead of pre-programming every step (which is nearly impossible for a bipedal robot), Imagineering trained Olaf inside a computer simulation. He got the equivalent of 10,000 hours of practice in just a few days, learning to adjust his balance the same way a human toddler would: fall down, correct, try again. This approach has been so successful that Disney is partnering with NVIDIA and Google DeepMind on Newton, an open-source simulation system that will unlock even more advanced characters. Olaf debuts in the World of Frozen lands in Hong Kong and Paris early next year, but I want to know: Would you want to meet a free-walking Olaf at Disney World or Disneyland? Follow Guide2WDW for more Disney Parks news and Imagineering deep dives. #disneyparks #imagineering #animatronics #worldoffrozen #Frozen
