@martsviews: Electric car drivers could soon face annual mileage checks at MOT centres as part of a new pay-per-mile tax the government is testing behind the scenes. Reports suggest EV owners may be charged around 3p per mile, meaning the average driver could see £250 a year added to their costs. EVs were sold as cheaper to run, but this move turns MOT centres into tax checkpoints, raising questions about fairness, hidden costs, and whether the government is quietly replacing lost fuel-duty revenue. What do you think, fair policy or another stealth tax on ordinary drivers? #EVTax #ElectricCars #UKBudget #MileageTax #CostOfLiving
This will come to all fuel types eventually. We know it.

Hybrids are the ones being hammered, not EVs. They are now paying VAT on electricity, fuel duty on petrol and 1.5p for every mile being driven whether on petrol or electric. Triple whammy. EV owners are fine with only 3p as it’s still a massive saving over petrol or diesel.

It’s a badly thought out shambles as usual. What if 90% of my mileage is on company business should we expect the employer to pay which would seem reasonable, but yet another cost on business. Where’s the growth agenda? Also, do I pay for all the miles I might drive in Europe!!!!

It’s all part of the ‘not thought through’ policy. All go green and go electric to meet our carbon emissions targets. Oh hang on do that and we lose a shed load of fuel tax revenues.! 🤦🏻♂️

Stealth tax hybrid drivers are going to be paying more than most. Fuel taxes as they use petrol , now 1.5p per mile on top,
