For people working at a Japanese company, the company usually covers the visa renewal fees, so there aren’t many who have to pay the full amount themselves.

30万は高過ぎだと思うけど、永住権申請料10万は取ってもいいと思う。アメリカに住んでるのでグリーンカード持ってるけど、申請料全部合わせると1800ドル(日本円で約28万)かかった。今までの日本のビザの申請料が安すぎる。

them saying naturalisation is easier than PR because of the time alone is crazy, too. it takes SO much more work to naturalise, and they won’t even LET you interview unless they think you’re likely to pass. One of my friends naturalised recently and it took her a whole year to gather together all of the things necessary for her application 😬

They clearly only want “wealthy” foreigners, but tbh there’s no incentive for those kinds of foreigners to even move here. Wages are incredibly low and stagnant. They can easily make more money in another country. Even I’ve considered moving, even though I really enjoy living here
