Saving money isn’t just a hobby—it’s a mindset. Every single dollar you casually throw away on convenience, I see as a choice. A choice to stay trapped in consumer culture. A choice to keep working for things you don’t actually need. That’s why in our home, we do things differently. 🧻 Reusable toilet paper: We haven’t bought toilet paper in over a year. I cut up old flannel sheets into squares and keep them in a basket by the toilet. Used ones go into a sealed container and get washed with towels on a hot cycle. It’s not “gross”—it’s fabric. Just like a baby’s cloth diaper or a washcloth. People need to stop being so emotionally attached to paper products. If you’re willing to wipe your face with a napkin at a restaurant, you can handle a soft cloth at home. 🪥 One family toothbrush: We only keep one toothbrush in the house. We rinse it thoroughly after each use, and I sanitize it once a week in boiling water. If we’re eating the same food, drinking from the same glasses, and living in the same space, there’s no reason to pretend our mouths need separate tools. It’s another way companies make you buy four of everything “just because.” And don’t come for me about bacteria—people kiss their partners and then act horrified over a toothbrush. Be for real. 🛁 Shared bath water: Yes, we all bathe in the same water. The cleanest person goes first, then the next person, and so on. I add a bit of baking soda and Epsom salt to keep it fresh between turns. Water bills are outrageous, and this is just common sense. People used to do it for centuries. There is nothing wrong with sharing bath water with your own family. It’s efficient. It teaches patience. And it reminds us that we are not above working with what we have. 🧼 One family towel: We use one towel for the whole household. It gets hung to dry between uses, and I wash it every few days. Having 4–5 separate towels just creates more laundry, more detergent use, more water waste. If you’re clean when you get out of the bath, what exactly do you think you’re wiping off? A towel doesn’t need to be fluffy and “fresh out of the dryer” to work. It just needs to be dry. I’m not lazy. I’m not dirty. I’m intentional. These habits aren’t about deprivation—they’re about liberation. We don’t feel like we’re missing out. We feel like we’ve stepped off the hamster wheel. You can keep chasing sales on things we stopped needing years ago. Or you can start questioning where your money goes, and why. We choose to live with less, so we can live more freely. #ExtremeCheapskate #LiveSimple #FrugalLife #IntentionalLiving #HomesteadMindset #SustainableLiving #WasteNothing #CheapskateChronicles #OldSchoolWisdom #MoneySavingHacks #MinimalistTradwifeEnergy #VintageLiving #SatireButAlsoNot
