31.10.25 #ratinsky #trump #xi #usa #china After Trump's meeting with Xi Jinping, it became clear: China has the upper hand. And you'll be amazed at how Beijing outmaneuvered Washington in these negotiations. The meeting lasted less than two hours at an airbase in South Korea. No broad trade deal was achieved, only a return to an uneasy truce. But look what everyone got. Xi Jinping secured a tariff reduction from 30% to 20% on Chinese goods in exchange for strengthening the fight against fentanyl. The US also agreed to postpone for a year a rule that would have expanded the blacklist of Chinese companies that do not have access to American technology. Trump prevented China from imposing restrictions on rare earth metals. China will also increase purchases of American soybeans. Both sides suspended port charges against each other. On paper, it looks like a fair exchange. But here's the key point: Beijing received real concessions on tariffs and export controls, mostly by backing away from measures it had imposed solely in response to US actions. Take soybeans. China agreed to purchase a minimum of 25 million metric tons of American soybeans annually for three years. But this is 1.8 million tons less than China purchased last year before the trade war. The Chinese internet immediately noticed this. Social media is praising how "China really won this tariff war" and "Trump finally sorted out the mess he created." And now the hard part. While Trump flew back to the US with a frozen government, Xi remained at the international summit to promote China as a beacon of globalization. The balance of power between them has clearly shifted.
