— Al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī [Al-Zuhd of imam Ahmad p. 226] “he is happy when a loss happens in his religion”; some might think, ‘there’s no way someone could be happy when a loss happens’, but it’s not a ‘loss’ in the way you think. When someone commits a sin, shayṭān decorates it for him, the nafs gets that dopamine rush, and the person feels happy, while in reality, it’s a calamity in the dīn. E.g. missing prayer because of staying up with ḥarām, yet being “happy” because of being entertained. Listening to music or falling into zina of the eyes/ears, so the brain pumps dopamine, making you feel good. People become careless when they lose something in their dīn, yet they grieve heavily when they lose something from the dunya. It could be many things, for example: missing prayers or delaying them deliberately/falling into sins and not repenting/losing sincerity in worship (riyāʾ, showing off; by posting your deeds, telling them to people, wanting attention etc. and more)/becoming attached to ḥarām and no longer feeling guilt/drifting away from Qurʾān and dhikr/losing hayaʾ (modesty, both inward and outward)/taking the dīn lightly— e.g., mocking or neglecting it/letting the heart die— not feeling pain when committing a sin/not caring about disobedience. So that is a loss in religion. But many people, as al-hasan al-basri described, act like it’s nothing, while if they lose money, health, or status, they break down in despair. In reality, a broken phone, a lost job, or a bad grade is nothing compared to a missed prayer, a dead heart, or losing Allah’s protection. #repent #islamic_video #islamicreminder #muslimtiktok #توبة_الى_الله
