Largest Chinese Gold Mining Company treating workers poorly causing Locals to Strike. The largest gold mining company in Guyana, Zijin Gold Mountain Ya Mei Construction Inc. earned about SEVENTY BILLION from 136,539 ounces of gold in 2024, and the workers are treated like modern-day slaves. A Chinese-owned multi-billion-dollar gold-producing company has mining operations at Aurora and continues to operate with immunity in Guyana. The company has an underground mining operation; it’s a very profitable operation, yet the workers raised concerns about health, safety, compensation, and their overall well-being on the job. Last year they made 136,539 ounces of gold, which amounts to roughly $70,000,000,000. Yet, employees say they fear constantly complaining because they have been threatened with termination; to be replaced with foreign workers. Despite being aware of their concerns, the company's management has not taken any corrective action. Workers have observed significant compromises in the workplace safety standards. They face many hazards due to inadequate safety measures. PPE for local workers is usually unavailable, old, and infrequently replaced, while the Chinese workers frequently receive proper gear. Equipment and vehicles needed for daily operations, such as loaders, vehicles, and lifting gear, are poorly maintained, with some machinery lacking functional brakes. Additionally, the meals provided are transported in highly unhygienic conditions. Food is carried in open vehicle trays exposed to dust and other contaminants, with no temperature control to prevent it from spoiling. The improper handling of the food has resulted in workers receiving spoiled food, sometimes containing worms. There is no meal room for local workers, so they are forced to eat underground in dusty environments, while the standards are different for the Chinese staff, who have access to an air-conditioned dining room. Underpayment and wage discrepancies are another concern of the workers. They reported late payments and being underpaid. Personnel working more than 1,500 feet underground are paid roughly $500 per hour during probation, with a slight increase after 6 months, and the underground risk allowance is $2,000 per day. The employees made many requests for fair compensation, which were denied, even though underground work presents more extreme physical and environmental risks than surface-level operations. When workers complain, they are dismissed and told, “If you can’t do it, find another job.” The situation at Zijin Gold Mountains Underground Inc. fails to uphold labour rights and occupational safety standards, and it continues with discriminatory practices. Workers are afraid to protest due to threats of termination, leaving them vulnerable and unheard. WIN calls on the Ministry of Labour to have these issues resolved forthwith for the 190 Guyanese workers affected, working 600 meters underground.#🇬🇾🇬🇾🇬🇾 #fypviralシ💙🖤🤍 #tik_tok #2025 #WINNATION @Bezzle_ from_ Helel @azruddinmohamedofficial @NEWLY WIN OPPOSITION 🇪🇪 @Odessa Primus
