Since today is National Weatherpersons Day I wanted to share with you some of the pictures of my journey. A journey that spans nearly 25 years now as a forecaster. I remember how I first got into the television business. I responded to a WPVI help wanted ad back in the summer of 2000. An ad that my mom came across while sitting on the beach in Sea Isle City. Who would have thought four months later I’d be sitting next to two of the very best weather talents in the entire country, Dave Roberts and Cecily Tynan! Five years later I would then make a very difficult decision to leave 6 to pursue my on career. I became chief meteorologist in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Coming from WPVI I was cocky. You couldn’t tell me anything. I had a lot to learn about being humble and appreciating where I was in my life. I hated it out there at first and just wanted to come home. But then the funniest thing happened, I made friends. I played in a fast pitch baseball league and a paint ball league. What started out as me sitting home on the couch every weekend with nothing to do quickly turned into me going out four or even five nights a week with my new buddies. A few years later I would make another difficult decision to leave. But this time around I was moving to the Windy City of Chicago (Fox 32). Sitting side by side with another terrific forecaster Amy Freeze, we created the best severe weather coverage in the third largest market in the country. Our overall ratings weren’t number 1, but when it came to severe weather coverage, we were second to nobody! The weather was violent out there at times and I learned a lot! I was having a lot of fun out there on and off the camera. But then a couple years later I would be let go because our new news director told me I sounded like I belonged on the east coast. I was devastated! I worked so hard out there and was having such a great time! But then my guardian angel called me (Cecily Tynan) and told me to get my resume tape to her because channel 6 was hiring a weekend meteorologist. In the Spring of 2011 I was hired back where it all started for me, WPVI 6abc. But this time around I was a lot more seasoned. I brought everything with me that I learned in Bowling Green and Chicago. I had become a very good forecaster. I was humble. I spent another 14 years in Philadelphia before making another difficult decision to leave in October of 2024. I was hired Monday through Friday evenings at WPTV in south Florida, one of the busiest weather markets in the country. Just not right now (we’re in the dry season lol). This morning I took a step back and went through all of this again in my head. Every job I’ve ever had. Every storm that I’ve ever been through, on and off the camera. My goodness what a wonderful journey this has been so far! Here’s to another 15-20 years! 👍🏻
