A patiently-executed, well-timed defense or counter is better than the rushed execution of a failed offense. They both knew the calibers they were dealing with, and one chose to attack while the other chose to defend. Both acts were done with immense concentration, precision, and force. Imagine if Van couldn’t have perfectly blocked that neck kick—it would have been a TKO for him. But he did block it perfectly, and that wasn’t luck. It was the combination of experience, training, instinct, focus, and perfect execution. Luck has almost no room in this level of professional match. All fair game. No foul, no NC. In gamers’ terms, a perfect counter can inflict a crit. 💯 It was a quick win, but was it simple luck, praying, “Let me win tonight, no questions asked, God?” Nah, even if it is, one has to have the recognition of his own caliber, his opponent’s strength, training, patience, observation, precision, timing, and perfect execution (offense or defense) to CREATE that “luck” to manifest. Yea, next time let Van block that high-kick (again) and then gently put it down on the floor, and maybe even massage it for a bit. 🍀 It was a clear win, even if it doesn’t satisfy your need for flashy moves, or didn’t meet the way you need him to win.
