@rachelinarealway: Financial literacy your friends parents taught them that brands don’t want you to know #financiallyresponsible #financialliteracy #hsa #healthinsurance
If you have an FSA then if you don’t spend it you lose it btw

The US is really a dystopia What do you mean you have to save specifically for health expenses 😭

Financially literate people, especially those with kids, are probably not opting for high deductible plans.

But do I have to have a high deductible + HSA health plan until I'm 65?

I don’t get the hype of HSA, even someone like me who’s young healthy in their 20s, with an HSA plan your coverage is so shit that if u just need an urgent care visit instead of being 50$ co pay its gonna be over 300$. I regret enrolling in it just living in fear that if I have a big medical emergency I can be cooked. Not worth it imo even for young people

This is only beneficial for those who are truly healthy/go very infrequently to the doctor. If you have a chronic health condition and need frequent appointments/imaging, please get a low deductible health plan and fund an FSA account to cover expected expenses (tax free money that must be used during the year on elegible medical expenses). Otherwise, your out of pocket costs will be very high.

Can you use this money after the age of 65 for anything? Or does it still have to be medical related. Aka a knee replacement.

I never felt like an HSA offered a significant enough benefit to use? Why not just use a retirement account for the 65+ benefit

A little confused on the third tax saving aspect. Everywhere I look it says while you avoid a penalty you’re still taxed on withdrawals after 65 if they’re non-medical?

People really are bean-souping this comment section. You obviously have to evaluate if the HSA plan is a good choice for you from a medical needs standpoint, but for many young healthy people this is an awesome option.

Note that this doesn’t apply for FSAs. HSAs roll over, FSAs do not (ie. use it or lose it).

I just hate that you must be enrolled in a CDHP in order to be eligible for a HSA. 😩

but!!! if you're going to buy certain HSA eligible things anyways (eg supergoop sunscreen), save those receipts because you can reimburse yourself for them at any point, so if you're diligent, you can reimburse yourself tax free for all your sunscreen, ibuprofen, even tampons, etc when you're 65 which is a huge slay
