Something I love is how different Annabeth and Percy's relationship looks when it isn't in Percy's POV. Reading the books, Percy is very oblivious to his feelings, despite it being pretty obvious he has a crush on her based on the context clues. Seeing it from a third person POV recontextualizes a lot of the interactions between them. Especially when you consider that Annabeth admits in HOO that she's liked Percy since she was 12, hense why her feelings are just as obvious as Percy's. A slowburn isn't about the characters not pining or not obviously having feelings. It's about the slow, but intense development of the romantic relationship. It takes a while, but a lot of the time the characters have feelings for each other, and things are just keeping them from being together.
