@maisonrickie: Today, let’s unpack the concept of “social reproduction” where we explore how the upper class inherit much more than just money. Another really fun video to make for me! I’m glad you guys seem to be enjoying it as much as I am. We’re not slowing down anytime soon, in fact, I’m stepping on the gas even more. Got some really exciting things coming in the new year! Let me know what you think!
scholastic disposition, I want to know why some people hate school seemingly by birth

This resonates with me sm. Come from poor family. Finished under grad with honours and found great mid tier job: huge jump up for me. Meanwhile, my classmates were moving on to ivy league schools (I didn't know what those were lol), they were getting better jobs at niche companies, went networking at the golf club, etc. They knew of grants and internships I had never heard of. 20 years later the gap is huge. Im comfortable middle class, while they are earning 5-10x my salary, have avoided taxes their entire life, are on boards, etc. I'm very content, happy with my life, don't get me wrong, but these gaps are just facts. I never mention any of this or I'm accused of victimising myself 'just need to try harder'. I love this high quality short format. Great content mate!

I’m a teacher and I see this in real time. The kids who have parents who value education perform markedly better and have a much more positive disposition towards learning and self-progression

this is like the saying a teacher once told us "tell me what your parents do for a living and I'll tell you how far you're likely to go". this is not the case for everyone but a child who had a parent whose a lawyer, judge, doctor, business tycoon etc has a far better advantage to succeeding financially even if they do their own thing versus a child whose parents had to work multiple jobs to give them the basic needs. the way they're exposed to life in general is different and therefore one child is inherently getting an advantage over the other.

people don't realise how common this is. both my parents are artist (opera singers) so when I said I wanted to be an artist myself (comic artist and fine art) they were completely supportive and on brand, understanding that for an artistic career to start you need a lot of time and helping me get money to live while in art school, helping me getting scholarship and giving all around support. My classmate is a genius artist but her family is from a scientific sector, so they don't support her in the slightest and she lives much less comfortably than me even if her parents are much richer than mine.
we grow in a system that shapes us

First time I met privately educated kids at a dinner, I was shook by how they owned their space. They presented themselves as equal contributors to the conversation, not pretending to be adult yet sure and relaxed about being heard and part of the general conversation. They didn't butt in or act silly, they listened, waited, asked for clarity and then offered responses with genuine interest and humour. They expected to be treated as equals, while understanding that the adult's experiences were worth listening to and measuring against their own experiences. It was like living 100 ahead of time for me, it felt groundbreaking.

Are there any countries that try to eliminate this gap in some kind of way? By pushing more resources to the working class I mean 🤔

Confession: I recently climbed way up on my high horse and said, ‘Why don’t parents just help their kids with homework?’ Someone IMMEDIATELY drop kicked me off and reminded me that a lot of parents come home from 12–16 hour shifts, juggling multiple jobs and zero energy. And the worst part? I knew that — my brain just took a coffee break. If I (middle class) can forget for a second, imagine the rich..… they’ve forgotten permanently.

Working class kid born to teen(17/18) parents, they ensured I was educated. My mom would go through my work with me, my dad checked my bag every evening. They wanted better for me, my mom learnt French because I was doing it at my "prestiege" all girls high school. They took advice and guidance from my teachers on my abilities, I am a qualified counselling psychologist and a lawyer. They are still my support system.

Very insightful. I was telling a friend about this and she didn't understand. Well that's what differentiate elitism to egalitarian or pluralism.
