@freerangepigeon: And we’re gonna pretend the crinkling of 15 year old packing tape is ASMR Maybe if someone writes up a museum style description for this thing I’ll put it back up on my walls #art #contemporaryart

You said "this the ugliest painting you've ever seen" but even before hearing the story behind it I found it beautiful. When looking at it, before hearing your explanation, I thought that the non realistic side was the farm but seen through the window of a car (idk why a car specifically) which, for me, instantly evoked a sense of nostalgia, so your painting succeded in giving me (more or less) the same feelings you were trying to portrait

I love hearing the backstory and personal meaning of this piece but also I do genuinely find it aesthetically enchanting

I wanted to write a museum style description. Here’s my attempt: “A Farmhouse Preserved(or whatever the art piece’s name is)”, created by artist Hallie Odellie from a cardboard printout, spray paint, acrylic paint, Sharpie, and truck and bike tracks. The artist saved a potentially ruined art piece from her farmhouse to make the art into something usable once again after her family tried to preserve the farmhouse her grandparents once lived in.”

Maybe because of the advent of ai but I find something especially beautiful about art that is fundamentally human. Like the process of creation right now is what makes an artwork wonderful to me

I interpreted it as the memories of what it used to be. the printed barn looks faded and as if it's preserved but not used anymore while the painted side is the fuzzy memories you have from childhood. the details aren't there anymore, everything is more colourful and it feels more raw. we are planning on selling my grandparents home, they haven't lived there for a couple of years and I get what you mean by "it's the same house but something is gone" sentiment. it's as if the life it used to hold no longer exists

Honestly, even if you were really young, your painting seems “museum-worthy” to me because it shows how an entire generation feels about life. The print was beautiful, some would say a perfect looking barn and represents what we were taught about life / the past growing up. We quickly noticed that life isn’t perfect and meaningful all the time; a lot of the time it’s messy and made up on the go because there were no better alternatives available. And all the shit that is happening and the shit that wasn’t talked about in the past “ruin” the whole thing, so even the “perfect” past is all muddied up all the way into the present. There doesn’t seem to be any possibility to have a perfect or even good future until we tack on a third part without the shit all over it, but that wouldn’t remove the shit in the past and present. I love your painting!
