The pockets are sewn shut with a simple running stitch that is easily removed so the garment stays neat on the rack. It's literslly just for presentation, you were always meant to take those stitches out and open the pockets

They do. Thats why there’s pockets designed in the pants. The temporary stitching is a design technique to keep slanted or welt pockets closed during packing and retail so the shape remains intact until the user opens it.

Alex Ferreira :
It is normal practice in the textile industry, we see that mostly on formal costumes. This is to preserve the shape on the clothing piece before first wear. It is made to be open.

Lauren Cooper :
it's a temporary stitch designed to be removed after purchase. it's there to keep everything in place and flat whilst on display/sale

You are supposed to do this. They come stitched to prevent damage during shipping. Especially common in high fashion and elegant attire. Zara and H&M do this to appear higher quality than their products really are.

If they didn't think women needed pockets it wouldn't have a pocket bag, it would just be a design feature on the outside. This has a pocket bag and therefore is designed to do exactly this, it's just people aren't educated about it
