Problem is health insurance. Insurance is tied to employment. I’ve been in places where I did have enough of a nest egg to survive a few months without a job. But the health insurance. I couldn’t go without health insurance.

Seasonal work is the best if you don't have a "career". The downside is you're looking for work every 6 months or so but it's easier to get seasonal work than a local fast food job in your town. I've learned how to budget for when i don't have a job and yes it is hard, but the freedom and adventures are worth it!!!

perspective became more clear when they mentioned minimum wage jobs. before that I was wondering how op intended to pay their rent while "broke" but clearly they are speaking to the middle class not those of us who are regularly pay rent a few days late depending on when payday falls.

As someone who spent 6 months looking for a job, only to get laid off after 3 days!! Do not quit your job!!! If you hate your job make time to look for something else but don’t risk unemployment in this economy.

As someone who works in unemployment people do just quit without finding jobs first and they usually panic about getting unemployment. Most people don’t qualify for unemployment if you quit.

i despised my last job and it took me OVER A YEAR to find another one. we would never have been able to afford living if I'd quit with no backup. yes, my mental health suffered. yes, my physical health suffered. but i did it to remained housed and help care for my family. now I'm at a job I love with a company that makes me feel appreciated and I get to help support my husband to find the same

Nope, it was the same decades ago. Never leave voluntarily if you don't have SOME sort of net, unless it's a real threat (in which case, get a free lawyer consultation). Even if that *is* a computer engineer leaving to stock shelves overnight at Target. Don't leave without anything on the other side, ever. Even stocking shelves overnight is not guaranteed, don't look at it as *so far beneath you*. "But this job isn't good for my mental health!" Try being unemployed?

Many high qualified people cannot get these quote, unquote, easy jobs because the jobs will read your resume and be like you're not, you're overqualified for this, you're not gonna hang out.You're not gonna last, you're gonna leave.We aren't in between place no.

It’s true though… I just quit my job because my PD was doing illegal things. I made to sure to give 30 days notice and they fired me the next day via email. lol. Guaranteed unemployment. Mentally I was drained and the money wasn’t worth the drain.
