Word of the day: Equipoise. Really love this. No wonder he’s so damn good at what he does - and that everyone loves working with him. The respect he has for the craft and the audience is what it’s all about. How serious he takes it. The responsibility he feels. I know some people don’t see Cinema as this “important.” But I do. Cinema is my home. It really saves me. My family, my best friends are on the screen often. And he knows that it can have that impact on people and seems to want to live up to it. All the best filmmakers do it - whether consciously or not. And I love what he says about the balance. Equipoise. He’s not saying it’s as “hard” as being an athlete, but that it takes that same level of concentration in its own way. How else do you not act and just be? This full interview was amazing. I recently started reading more than I’ve ever read in my entire life. Once I started writing my first novel. Trying to read one book every couple of weeks. Already failed with a King novel. So fucking long. And I can easily say that it has already made me a much better writer. Immersing yourself in that ink on the page, in a true longform narrative, expands your mind a completely different way than watching a movie or listening to audio does. It’s not that it’s better than any other form of art consumption. It’s just different, working a different creative muscle. Opening up different areas of the mind. More importantly, it allows you to explore life, explore another human being’s mind. That’s the real beauty of a novel, for me, is getting a direct look into the mind of author. If you ever feel like you a loving a boring life, or that you are just bored in general, read a damn book. Go on an adventure.
