This is dedicated to one of the most powerful films you can ever watch, Grave of Fireflies. As a father to a little boy and girl I find my heart crushed under the weight of knowing the suffering of so many at the hands of those in power. A feeling of helplessness can only be captured. I redid the famous scene in the style of Mr Skelly paying homage to an equally heart-wrenching quote that I have been stewing on: “Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.” - Rabindranath Tagore I cannot wait to further expand on this quote in an animated tone. But if that doesn’t describe death the exact way I intend on illustrating it, I don’t know what can. I have finished the book today, a great accomplishment I feel, merging the worlds of grief and love and life and loss and child-like wonder and adulthood understanding, I hope you can feel that fully when you get it in your hands. Thank you to the now 2,000 plus of you who have grabbed a copy, and to the people who support us through and through. We’ve just hit 2.9 million followers today. I pray with all my heart my work continues to speak into your hearts in the way it was intended. I am merely carrying a torch. Thank you to Akiyuki Nosaka, Isao Takahata, Michio Mamiya who created such a powerfully masterful film. Michio passed away late last year and left us all with one of the most heartbreaking soundtracks to a film. I think a true test to our humanity is the ability to empathise with those we disagree with vehemently. I think it’s a common misconception that everybody is their opinions, even when they hold them tightly. There’s an emerging trend of “well we have taken the high road forever, and it’s never worked so now it’s time to meet them head on” it can seem like an admirable thing, but the just fight for good is an ongoing battle, and to win hearts it takes a sympathy more powerful than any sword or pen. It’s not easy, but few things worth doing are. Go easy on yourself in your journeys, this is EVERYONE’S first time alive, and we are all constantly changing and becoming exactly who we are meant to.
