@brutamerica: Migrants in Chicago, Illinois, look through the windows of a warming bus during a brutal winter storm this past weekend where wind chill temperatures dipped to -25 degrees Saturday night. The City of Chicago opened warming busses near the migrant landing zone close the South Loop, saying that 550 migrants, including 100 children, had used the busses to sleep. According to city data, Chicago has received over 30,000 migrants from the southern U.S. border since August 2022. They arrive as part of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s program that sends recently arrived migrants from Texas to Democratic-run cities in north like Chicago, New York City, Denver, and Washington, D.C. According to the Texas governor’s office, the program has sent about 75,500 migrants out of state since April 2022. Chicago currently has 27 shelters that house over 14,500 people. There are currently 825 people still awaiting placement in a shelter. There are 554 sleeping in busses, 16 at police stations, and 255 at O’Hare International Airport, according to city data.
