These are the ones I wish would disappear forever. After 90+ countries and way too many mistakes, here are 5 travel tips I hear all the time that are just plain bad: ❌ 1. Pay in your home currency When you use your credit card abroad, you’ll sometimes be asked: “USD or local currency?” ✅ Always choose local currency. If you pick your home currency, the store sets the exchange rate — and it’s usually awful. Their bank gets a tip - and you lose money. ❌ 2. Always book round-trip to save money This used to be smart. Now? Not always. ✅ One-way or multi-city tickets can be cheaper and way more flexible. I once saved $300 flying into Paris and out of Nice - where I wanted to leave from anyway. Win-win. ❌ 3. Book flights on a Tuesday – it’s cheaper That may have worked a decade ago. But now prices change constantly based on demand, time of day, route, and your search history. ✅ Instead: Use Google Flights. Turn on price tracking and use the calendar view to spot the cheapest dates. ❌ Don’t bother with travel insurance I’ve heard this one too many times: “It’s a waste of money.” But here’s the thing — accidents and emergencies happen. ✅ When Matt needed emergency spine surgery in Austria, it cost over $22,000 — and we paid nothing. Travel insurance covered every penny and also paid for a month of unexpected hotel stays, meals, and missed flights. You should never travel without it. ❌ 5. Pack for “just in case” Extra shoes, outfits for every occasion, backup toiletries… it all adds weight and stress, and money. ✅ Instead: Pack light and versatile. You’ll have less to carry, more room for souvenirs, and fewer baggage fees to worry about. Most places have laundry anyway - and stores if you really do need something you didn’t pack. 🎁 BONUS: Comment GUIDE and I’ll send you our free packing guide - with links to our best travel finds! 👉Follow @readyjetroam for smart travel that saves you time, money, and stress 🌍 @readyjetroam ✈️ @readyjetroam 📸 @readyjetroam #traveltips #travelhacks
