If you chit, or cut your potato so that each chunk has a sprout and planted your yield would have been higher and you should plant them in March around Saint Patty‘s day

I tried growing some this year and nothing happened. Plant sprouted , we added soil, then no taters when time to harvest. Could it have been GMO taters and why nothing produces?? Used from store bought sprouted taters.
