@drmadeit: Check it out: A customer asked if I could make a handle for his old hammer, so I carved one from a scrap piece of hickory I had in the shop—just as a thank-you. I sanded it to 320 grit and hand-burnished it for about 30 minutes until it felt like it had already lived a life. He asked if he should oil it, and I told him nope—just let the oil from his hands do the work over time.
