I don't excuse the mother but saying " dad was also young,, isn't appropriate. Did dad carry that child? Did he risk his life to birth her? Did his body change and he was left traumatised for nine months? No? Therefore it's not the same.

The friends are latching onto the idea that her “Mom” wants to come back. If you frame it as a stranger, a woman from your dad’s past wanting to reconnect, it’s weird. She gave up any kind of relationship, just to now pop up and bulldoze her way into OP’s life. Op has a good head on her shoulders and a caring family, her egg donor is just dredging up drama.

I was 5 when my dad left. I never judged him for leaving (my mom was and still is a terrible person)! I judge him for the fact that he never reach out to me, never paid anything for childsupport.. I was the one who, 21 years later went to see him.. I understand OP, no matter what her mom was going through, she should have at least keep in contact with her child!

I think OPs mom has ever right to not want to be in the child’s life if she wasn’t ready to be a mom and had a lot of big plans ahead of her but I think OP also has every right to not want a relationship with her mom now because of it

As someone who gave the moment a second chance, she over stepped every boundry she could and wouldn't stop telling me how she cried for all my birthdays... Yet when her step kids started calling me things and I told her, she replied with pretty much "well ya what do you expect" then when I told her this needs to stop or I'll drop contact she didnt think I was serious 🙄 now 5 years later idk if she even knows im married

If you don’t want your kid then own it but do not crawl back into their life at 16 and claim you regretted it. What happened in those years that she couldn’t have contacted her until 16? Like OP said she tried a year earlier but that’s still too late.

Sooo half the time she's been gone, she was raising 1-2 other kids just fine, but decided now was the best time to reach out/reconnect? Get bent lol. I 100% agree with the comments saying she's just in need of a babysitter, not another kid.

She regretted it for 10 year but she had two more children she decided to stick around and raise within those 10 years instead of the one she already left behind? I personally could never get over how those two were good enough for her to stay around to raise but I wasn’t…????

she cannot use "I regretted not reaching out for 10+ years" as an excuse when the dad was giving milestone updates. he literally extended an olive branch, and all she had to do was reply to one of those. it could have been literally anything, even something as little as a congratulations card in the mail.

I don’t blame OP at all for how she handled this. Dealing with all this at 16 is even an achievement itself😭😭 It’s crazy how the mum said she wanted OP to build a connection with her children even before attempting to try and fully fix their relationship🙄
