@crystal.lover0331: Predatory price gouging isn’t just about high prices it’s about the intent behind the sale. When shops weaponize emotion, fake scarcity, or flat-out lie about locale and rarity to push inflated prices, that’s not just shady it’s manipulative. And it happens way too often in this community. This is why research matters. Understanding what actually goes into pricing minerals things like aesthetic quality, size, clarity, color, associations, and confirmed locale is how you protect yourself. Not everything that’s expensive is predatory, but when the story is louder than the science, that’s a red flag. #redflags #scam #themoreyouknow #crystals #crystaltok #education #knowledge

Crystal :
Whenever price gouging is a topic of conversation, there is 1 shop that always comes to the top of my head REAL quick😅 I have never seen a single reasonably priced thing from them and they are a HUGE shop. I saw them selling a small Rose Quartz palm stone for $177 just the other day🤯 I wish I could save people from scams like that. Good on you for talking about it!

I screamed in horror when you said a Moscana was a new pocket out of Hilton Mine. Like they’re totally different. I **know** it’s just an example but I have to keep reminding myself ITS JUST AN EXAMPLE. It’s just an example…. It’s just an example.

Scarcity tactics used to work so well on me! In a live sale, there is not always time to research accuracy. At a minimum, I recommend asking ChatGPT if the piece is actually rare before claiming.

I know one shop that uses both of these and then calls you stupid if you ask a question. They are just predators.

It’s also important to note that maybe the shop was taken advantage of but in some point in the supply chain there was intent to take advantage and increase the price based on that and in order to protect yourself from getting taken advantage of too is research and knowledge. Research and knowledge is the only real way to protect yourself and your collection 🎯🎯🎯

People do this so much with “specimens” like just because you bought museum wax and stuck a small crystal to a piece of plastic does not give it more value 😭

I totally struggle with pricing and the differences between a 500 piece and a 1500 piece from the same locality 😂

Ooohhh, I think the $800/kg vanadinite happened while you were taking a breather. One time I caught the seller putting it on sale for like $450/kg, but 9/10 it was $800.

Recently I saw a seller doing a live selling a beautiful green apophyllite with sugar Stilbite. I have one in my shop that is almost a dupe, down to the size. I was selling mine for $275. I heard the seller say with her whole chest that she is selling hers at wholesale price for $435. I was like 😱😱😱😱😱 LIAR!!!

Heat treated citrine is my dumb beginner buys in an auction luckily only bought 2. They are pretty so I'll probably keep one but sell the other for less than I paid

Respectfully, as a lawyer that used to work in consumer protection, your examples are fraud and false advertising, not price gouging. The sellers are just lying.

Predatory price gouging isn’t only about the price it’s about the intent behind pricing something and trying to take advantage of buyers ignorance and it happens WAY more than it should in this industry and why research is so extremely important 💯💯💯

You keep insisting on attempting to change the definition of price gouging. It is literally a legal term, with a strict definition, and it is illegal in some states. It ONLY applies during a time of crisis & emergency. Pick any other term (even “predatory pricing” would work) & stop misuing this one.
