The sound of a palm tree with @Artlist.io 🌴 This sound was recorded as part of a project in Tuvalu, in collaboration with Artlist. We were sent to this island nation, slowly disappearing due to rising sea levels, to document its culture, daily life and soundscapes. On my last day in Tuvalu, I explored a deserted island. While walking along the beach, a sound caught my attention: something that stood out from the waves, the birds and the wind. It came from a palm tree. It wasn’t the usual rustling of leaves, it was something more vibrant. The palm fronds were vibrating in the wind, probably because of how they were positioned. Palms are a common part of Tuvalu’s local flora and they’re everywhere on the islands but I had never heard one sound quite like this. I stopped, listened and placed my contact microphone. I was able to capture the sound clearly, isolating it from the surrounding noise. This recording, like many others from Tuvalu, is now available on Artlist.io. You can download it and use it in your own creative work via the link in bio. Several complete sound packs from this trip are available on the platform. You’ll find beach birds and subtle crab movements in Micro Wilderness, textured surface recordings in Amorphic Textures and voices from everyday life in Island Chatter. The Tribal Hymn pack features a range of traditional vocal recordings, including fatele performances and children’s chorales in classrooms, reflecting the richness of Tuvaluan musical expression. Hits and Rhythms brings together a variety of percussive elements recorded across the islands. For more atmospheric recordings, White Beach offers calm seaside textures, Tropical Rain captures the rhythm of Tuvalu’s rainfall and Roadside Traffic captures the everyday sounds of the island’s roads. All these sounds were captured with care and attention, using a wide range of microphones, from contact and geophones to more traditional setups. 🙏 A huge thank you to Artlist for making this journey possible and to the amazing team I had the chance to travel with: Tristan, Zeke, Spencer, Matthew, Fabio, Josh, Lusien. It was a deeply human experience and I feel grateful to have been part of this expedition to record the sounds, voices and life of Tuvalu. It's more important than ever to preserve these places which are threatened by climate change and rising seas. I hope this documentary, along with all the music, sounds and visuals from the project, helps bring more visibility to Tuvalu. A place with a beautiful culture, unique biodiversity and a voice that deserves to be heard. #nature #sound #science #fyp #pourtoi
