This collection represents how fashionable Black People were throughout the centuries, especially in NYC.. I grew up in Harlem where high fashion was the norm.

The epitome of elitist is everything you are “bragging” about. I would love to hear the elite brag about the things they have done for people who can’t do anything for them. I love black excellence I just ain’t feeling the experiences I’ve had with j&j people and how they have treated me even though I’ve shown admiration and respect. That “I’m better than you” energy is kinda divisive

The problem I'm having with this take and honestly, many of the takes around this topic is, this idea that just because some black people have access to greater opportunities than other black people, that they aren't working hard. If, the black experience is to be considered non-monolithic, then how we discuss success should be in the same vain. I often hear many black people who are successful quantify the successes of other black in very materialistic ways, which is a monolithic way of examining success. *Not arguing, just food for thought.*

Med student here🖐🏾 I think the reason this is being perceived as elitist is because of what you said towards the end of your video. Your life style is one to “aspire to” Paths to success and happiness aren’t linear, and while I think it’s important that Black excellence and luxury are celebrated, framing Black luxury as THE aspirational standard for EVERYONE can unintentionally replicate the same elitist structures we’ve historically been excluded from. Not every form of black identity or expression needs to be highend to be valid or powerful. We can hold space for black opulence and black working-class culture without ranking them.

I think there needs to be a deeper conversation about why people feel uncomfortable when successful Black individuals are portrayed. When we begin to succeed by the same rules that once excluded us we’re suddenly labeled as “elitist”..

I’m hood to the core but this collection is fly. I want the sweaters and they are sold out in my size. I’m buying the Morehouse collection for my son. Black people have different experiences and I love it..

Instead of calling people names, let's normalize asking the questions "How did they acquire their wealth? or "What do they do for a living?" Even for those with serious generational wealth, someone had to take that hit (aka busted their tail) to set the ball in motion. In most cases, this meant going to school AND completing college. A lot of us need to take our opportunities more seriously.

Sir you know darn well your whole brand and aesthetic is elitism 🙄😆. Now I ain’t say you deserve the hole and the barracks for it. But if your commentary isn’t elitism than what the heck is ? … elevating to the upper echelon of society has a residual effect that produces elitist privileges. Be fahreal. It’s room to acknowledge the good and bad in most things .

These are the same ppl who say Beyonce and J are rich solely bc of the Illuminati😒. I also think that those upper crust Black societies have a bad rep going back to free people of color, Jack n Jill, the brown paper bag test, etc.... but that's not the conversation most are trying to have. They're approaching this from the mindset of "that wasn't MY experience so it's not real" which will always turn into ^^^this kinda discourse

Man it’s a clothing line! Enough is enough! Oak Bluff and MV are beautiful communities and all RL has done for HBCU’s is dope. I really am sorry that folks compare you to a white man and that’s wack! But yall exalting this clothing line like it’s supposed to Inspire folks. It’s a clothing line from a HBCU grad and that’s dope! Anything else placed on it is just projection and seems desperate to give it deeper meaning when it’s a clothing line. PS listing off ya resume and accolades isn’t elitism, it’s the tone that is elitist.

Ghetto culture is the only culture in the world that resents success and education. It’s wild. They glorify ‘hoodness’ to the point that they wouldn’t end their cycle of poverty even if they could.
