It doesn’t look bad with the rectangular rug. I think I’d move the couch to line up and leave space behind the couch to walk through. Then put a console table or shallow bookshelves to decorate along that back wall.

I feel like it would look better with the circular rug. You could take a picture of it and I draw a circle rug to see if you like it.

What about a square rug? If that’s a 5 x 7, maybe a 6 x 6 or 8 x 8. I think a little larger but square will cover the whole space and go under the couch some and look like the whole area is covered and you won’t see where it ends under the couch, so it won’t look as off
