Crucially, Labeling Theory highlights how societal labeling of perpetrators as "criminals" can hinder their reintegration, leading to self-stigma, social exclusion, and increased recidivism. Residential programs can counteract this by providing a safe space for identity reconstruction, structured reintegration, and skill-building for community living, ultimately reducing re-offending. In Botswana, the Prison Service already emphasizes rehabilitation and reintegration.
