@.macie.lyn: An education degree is an education degree it doesn’t matter where you get it from! The real preparation happens in the classroom! #educationdegree #firstyearteacher #fyp
One of the reasons you shouldn't get your degree in education from MSU, Western or UM would have been a better choice for that specific degree

came back to see if there were more comments than last night when you posted, just want to say i’m so proud of you for standing up for yourself and getting out of there. as someone who stayed silent and just took it until my final semester (when i finally talked with the dean and figured out why everything i had gone through happened), i wish i would’ve spoke up more (or when i did speak up SOMEONE WOUDLVE LISTENED). i’m so happy you chose this path and i’m having so much fun watching you’re latest journeys. all of this to say i hope you know you are absolutely not alone in these feelings with msu and the ed department. a lot of what i went through and what it sounds like you went through are honestly a disgrace to the world of education. it’s an utterly ridiculous program and it keeps me awake at night that i couldn’t do more for myself and they didn’t do more to make me a better teacher. i’m so proud and excited for you and can’t wait for these next steps in your life!

Crazy! My oldest was getting classroom experience as early as her second semester at Western and yes it did lead her to decide teaching wasn’t for her. My youngest has experienced some of the same frustrations with scheduling at her college but they start classroom experience in their junior year and it’s in a state that requires a masters for licensure.

I’m not in the education program at MSU but they are definitely understaffed. My program is rly small but we have classes at like 8 am and ones that start at 5pm. You have to take them or you won’t graduate which is so annoying

23 years ago I transferred to MSUB for almost the same reasons, I was K-12 Art, but at that time you were essentially doing a double major a BFA and the BS in Ed it was so hard.

i transferred to msu with a full bachelors and half a masters degree and they told me it would still probably take me four years to get my education degree. i gave up after two years because it was all pre requisites

Veteran MT teacher here 🙋🏼♀️I’ve had brand new baby teachers as colleagues and student teachers prove time and time again that our teacher prep programs in this state are FAILING their students. The real learning happens when you are thrown into the classroom, yes… but if you don’t know the reality of what it entails and aren’t prepared, you’re going to: 1. Get overwhelmed 2. Burn out, quickly.
