30 Days of dog training starts today! What are some of your goals over the next month so we can add them into the program. if your dog doesn’t understand the word yes/no you are in for a rude awakening. Everything is significantly harder when you can’t properly communicate. I’m no Stranger, to this either, but we all want instant gratification. How do I get to my finish line without putting in the work? The reality is, it’s absolutely impossible. We are going to restart your training from the foundation up. When conditioning the word yes, use an upbeat, energized tone and have everyone in the house practice this lesson, yes even your husband/wife and kids! For now we are signing a contract. If you say yes, you are going to pay, every single time. It’s common for dog owners to say my dog is not listening to the word, yes. It has nothing to do with them listening or not listening, it’s just a matter have we conditioned it or is it not conditioned yet. what about a clicker? Personally, I love using a clicker, I think I get just as much as a dopamine reward when I hear the noise as the dog does. I also think the clicker will get a faster response, and more powerful response due to the fact that noise is never heard from the dog in any other scenario. The problem is, not everybody has one, and it’s like Chapstick it doesn’t matter how many bye you never have one close to you.

Day 2, Teaching place. Keep this in mind while you’re practicing. You should be doing this lesson two or three times a day over the next week, and keep your lessons right around 10 to 15 minutes long. There are what we call the 3 D’s in dog training, duration, distance, distractions. This first week, time is most important! I don’t care if you can’t get far away from your dog, yet, focus on spreading the time between the intermittent reward every lesson. As your dog gets more comfortable with the bed, you also want to start them a few feet further away from the bed so they can learn to go to it on command. Place is a two part command, go to AND stay! You don’t have to use any other words. Like we learned yesterday, it’s important to say the word without movement. Do not say place while walking towards the bed. Say the word clearly, pause for one second, and then guide your dog to the bed. When you are bringing your dog to the dog bed, try and stop before the front of it. You don’t want to have to walk past the entire bed, especially after the first lesson. Your dog should be doing more work than you do. The reason we use an elevated dog bed is so that your dog can’t lay halfway onto the floor and a half way onto their bed. The elevated dog bed makes it more black and white, making the learning process faster and much easier for you. The reason we’re not going to reward the release come in at the moment, it’s because your dog stinks at being still. We want to put a great amount of focus on holding the position and incentivize that the dog bed is the greatest place in the world, but coming off is semi-boring. 30 day goal, Your dog holds this command for 30 minutes. Let’s get to work.
