I culture a few different strains of daphnia, which are types of “clam shrimp” right?

First thought, some type of larval mollusk, bivalve, odd clam...no it's a crustacean? No, it's yes to both...its shrimp on the half-shell!

the bait shop used to get them or something very similar to them in during ice fishing season, called them grass shrimp, I guess their a fresh water shrimp that don't do too well in warmer water. they live in massive clusters near the bottom of really deep lakes, and lake trout eat them in extremely large quantities for the spring spawn.

they are arthropods so shrimp. the best way to understand evolution is to see the increasing complexity overtime in phylogenic development

They remind me of the daphnia I used to find swimming in the flooded corn fields as a kid. Who would have known a corn field could have such a diverse ecosystem with so many aquatic creatures! I found everything from tadpoles to giant water bugs to dragonfly larvae! It was amazing!
