@cupc4kiescce: I saw a Filipino celebrity share this photo on IG today. It shows two elderly people sitting on top of a roof in Cebu during the typhoon. Drenched, terrified, and just holding on. It broke me. 💔 At their age, they should be resting and safe. Not praying for their lives under the rain. Lola was clutching her bag so tightly, maybe it has her maintenance medicines inside, I don’t even know. Lolo beside her had blood flowing down his leg from what looked like a wound, but he didn’t seem to care anymore. I don’t have parents or grandparents anymore, but seeing them reminded me of what it means to love, to protect, and to survive. Because while they are not my family, they are someone’s parents. Someone’s lolo and lola. And somewhere, their children or grandchildren are probably crying, hoping they’re okay. I have already lost track of the number of weeks since the flood control corruption issue was brought to light, yet still no one is held accountable. No one is in jail for the corruption that turned what should have been a protective system into a source of tragedy. How many more lives and homes have to be washed away before anyone truly pays the price? We always talk about resilience, but this is not resilience. This is survival in a system that keeps failing its people. And it hurts.
